Six Burner

For a special treat, celebration or recovery from a hard week, Six Burner does the trick for these two DINKS. The management has drawn us in a bit more than usual with the prix fix menus and wine specials not to overshadow the creative cocktails (the grapefruit gin martini is a surprising new winner for me). We find the food to be savory and a good blend of creative combinations. On Monday, I stepped out with a cucumber soup topped with pickled shrimp. Our entrees were consistently good and flavorful. And then, there is always the tempting desserts that juxtapose my good judgment and my wanton sweet tooth. The tooth won this time, and we enjoyed the panna cotta with a smoky honey flavor that exceeded my already elevated expectations. The staff is a bit cool but pleasant, which I like ... I have enough friends and enjoy our privacy. As for the location, it is perfect for art patrons (near fun galleries and charming art inside).

My husband and I went to six burner last night with another couple for their two years aniversary celebration. I have to say that I am really sorry that I sugguested six burner to celebrate their special night. We heard a lot of good reviews of six burner but had not had a chance to eat there before until last night. We started with fried oysters and it was all well fine and dandy so we order one more. Again not bad, but they seemed salty. We ordered 4 entrees and my friends dinner came with a salad. When our dinners came we tasted our food and looked at each other then my friend's husband said "It's a little salty" then we all said SAME HERE. So we tasted each other food and we all agree that this food is loaded with SALT SALT SALT and SALT even the salad tasted SALTY. However we ate more, thinking that may be this was "high cuisine" not quite realizing what was happening to us. We, paid and left but soon the effects began to set in. We felt parched, dizzy like we are going to throw up. We realized that we had SALT SICKNESS ! The MSG kind of salty sickness, We knew we had to detoxify and need some Green Tea and Tums. I can't imagine that any restaurant could have survive this long by serving food this Salty. I hope this was a mistake, and not a deliberate salt attack on us as patrons. If it only one thing that tasted I could understand that it might be a mistake but OMG everything was loaded with salt EVEN THE SALAD! I will never go back to SALT burner ever again...

The prix fix meals here are one of the best values in Richmond. I wish I could eat here every day! I guess I shouldn't say this as I may not be able to get a table the next time I stop in...... Thanks for the wonderful meals!
