We’ve seen a lot of seafood restaurants open over the last year, The Boathouse, Coast and Water Grill, to name just three. Clearly, restaurateurs recognize a feed-need and are trying to meet it. The Water Grill does a passable job with deep-end dining: passable, but not applause-worthy.
The interior of Water Grill provides a clue to the dining experience. It is thoughtful and simple, but not intellectual. The feel of the space is casually upscale and this feeling is fostered by the tinkling of a carefully logoed, but still Zen-like, water fountain in the doorway; clay-colored walls with exposed brick; and comfy booths, carefully positioned so that there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
The patio is dotted with puce, all-weather umbrellas and overlooks the ever-changing landscape of Carytown, the touristy "boutique" shopping draw of Richmond.
